This website was created in 1998 as a way to provide an online resource for those interested in learning more about early education in the United States. The history and reminiscences from those who taught and attended one-room schoolhouses are prevalent throughout the site.
One-room schoolhouses are symbolic with our country's earnest commitment to education. These humble places of learning continue to serve in a variety of ways. Some are now historic museums, private residences, living history programs or are still in operation as bonfide schools. Be sure to check out the webpage for America's One-Rooms to see if your schoolhouse is included with your state 's list. Sincerely, The Cornell Schoolmarm |

Important Note: The schools listed on the One Room Schoolhouse Center website are as up-to-date as much as possible. However, be aware that internet addresses are changed from time to time and so there may be dead links for some of our listings. We welcome your input when this happens so that we can make corrections. Click here to email us.
We can add your one-room schoolhouse to any of our lists. However, you MUST have an actual website for your schoolhouse, in order for us to create a link to your site. Click here to email us your website address and location. We will be glad to add your school to our growing list of America's Schoolhouses!
