Welcome to the official website for vintage one-room schoolhouses!

The One-Room Schoolhouse Center website was created in 1998 as a way to provide an online resource for those interested in learning more about early education in the United States. The history and reminiscences from those who taught and attended one-room schoolhouses are prevalent throughout the site.

One-room schoolhouses are symbolic with our country's earnest commitment to education. These humble places of learning continue to serve in a variety of ways. Some are now historic museums, private residences, living history programs or are still in operation as bonfide schools.

Be sure to check out the America's One-Rooms web page to see if your schoolhouse is included with your state 's list.

Sincerely,
The Schoolmarm
